Wallpapering over OSB?
I would like to install vinyl wallpaper on unfinished OSB walls, above the wainscoting I just installed. What do I need to apply to these walls to get the wallpaper to stick? I tried a test piece of the wallpaper and as the glue dried, the wallpaper “unstuck.” Any good recommendations?
Try painting it with primer first and then a gloss paint. Then, if you don’t like the wallpaper, the wall won’t be ruined. Also, the primer will help adhere the paint to the OSB. Maybe ask your hardware store what primer to buy.
Oh, apparently there is a “wallpaper primer”. If you don’t use that, be very careful about making sure the wallpaper doesn’t bond with the OSB. We moved into a house and didn’t like the wallpaper, plus it was pretty rotten in some spots. It took us weeks to get it all off. I know with drywall, if you don’t put gloss paint first, it will take off the backing and you will be left with chunks of gypsum. I would imagine OSB would be pretty rough to remove wallpaper from as well.
