Dandy Color Concepts That You Can Utilize for Your Bedchamber
Painting is among the more fun parts of decorating your abode, but that doesn’t mean there’s no work required. Truth is, it takes a fair amount of thinking—and sometimes a bit of trial and error—in order to find a hue which will suit your room for long. Usually, an overly eager homeowner will just choose her favorite color and eventually set out to work. Thus, the paint either clashes with the room decorations or becomes much too plain.
So how do you avoid these classic mistakes? One thing you may do is play a little with your colors. Think beyond the habitual solids and stripes, neutrals and pastels, blacks and whites. Sometimes, even just a single bright choice of color can make all the difference between a room that’s flat and one which is lively. Here are several sensational color tricks you might want to try in your bedchamber.
Don’t just use one color. Can’t settle on just one color? Utilize both colors. Alternate colors between walls so that you will have two similar colored walls facing each other. This is great for roommates or couples who like different colors. Contrasting colors work best—you can check out blue and pink, orange and green, or purple and yellow. If you choose to go with this style, keep the rest of your furnishings in a neutral shade (like metal or wood), or there’ll just be way too much color in the room.
Go for contrast. Contemporary designs have a tendency to be clean and minimalist, putting preferance on solid whites and blacks. While this is surely sassy, it may become dull with time. If you like minimalist style but also want the bold and whimsical, try adding some splashes of color to your stark white wall. It may be just a delicate floral detail or a simple stripe. The aim of this is to shatter the monotony of plain colors, so that the eye continuously moves around the whole room.
Experiment with textures. Some colors are just too plain or lifeless to paint a whole room with. Cream, beige, and off-white are among the more common examples. If you adore these colors, you may give them life by giving them some texture. Try to look for a paint roller with a pattern on it or try sponging them for a rougher finish. Apply textures on one wall, though—overdoing it will make the room seem messy and cramped.
Reverse your room’s colors. Lots of people usually choose off-white, white, or cream for the furniture, saving the more interesting colors for the walls. If you happen to be feeling bold, you might want to try doing the opposite: opt for a lighter color for your walls and a richer, darker shade for the edges and trims. You may also go for a light wall and dark curtains (if you have the lighting to compensate), or boldly colored fixtures on a wood-finished or neutral wall. Make certain the colors still go well together, and that you can live with it for a long time.
Create your own shades. If you can’t find any color you want on the palette, try inventing colors of your own. Get a small amount of each of your favorite colors, and mix and match until you end up with a nice shade. It can even be a fun and pleasurable activity for you and your children! Just make sure to note down all your matches, so you may easily re-create your hue when it’s time to paint.
Make Drawings. A plain color is sometimes just not enough, no matter how bright or bold the color is. If textures and patterns do not appeal to you, why not draw on the walls yourself? You wouldn’t have to paint a mural—just a few bright lines in the right places can make a big difference. For something that is less permanent, you can opt for a wall decal or a detail from old wallpaper patterns.
Make a feature wall. A feature wall is just a wall that’s aesthetically different from the other parts of the room, either by decoration, color, or texture. Choose a wall that’s visible from any part of the room, so that it serves as your focal point. Color it with a brighter color than your other walls and decorate it with different wall accents such as hanging shelves, grilles, paintings, or picture frames. Dandy Color Concepts That You Can Utilize for Your Bedchamber
Painting is among the more fun parts of decorating your abode, but that doesn’t mean there’s no work required. Truth is, it takes a fair amount of thinking—and sometimes a bit of trial and error—in order to find a hue which will suit your room for long. Usually, an overly eager homeowner will just choose her favorite color and eventually set out to work. Thus, the paint either clashes with the room decorations or becomes much too plain.
So how do you avoid these classic mistakes? One thing you may do is play a little with your colors. Think beyond the habitual solids and stripes, neutrals and pastels, blacks and whites. Sometimes, even just a single bright choice of color can make all the difference between a room that’s flat and one which is lively. Here are several sensational color tricks you might want to try in your bedchamber.
Don’t just use one color. Can’t settle on just one color? Utilize both colors. Alternate colors between walls so that you will have two similar colored walls facing each other. This is great for roommates or couples who like different colors. Contrasting colors work best—you can check out blue and pink, orange and green, or purple and yellow. If you choose to go with this style, keep the rest of your furnishings in a neutral shade (like metal or wood), or there’ll just be way too much color in the room.
Go for contrast. Contemporary designs have a tendency to be clean and minimalist, putting preferance on solid whites and blacks. While this is surely sassy, it may become dull with time. If you like minimalist style but also want the bold and whimsical, try adding some splashes of color to your stark white wall. It may be just a delicate floral detail or a simple stripe. The aim of this is to shatter the monotony of plain colors, so that the eye continuously moves around the whole room.
Experiment with textures. Some colors are just too plain or lifeless to paint a whole room with. Cream, beige, and off-white are among the more common examples. If you adore these colors, you may give them life by giving them some texture. Try to look for a paint roller with a pattern on it or try sponging them for a rougher finish. Apply textures on one wall, though—overdoing it will make the room seem messy and cramped.
Reverse your room’s colors. Lots of people usually choose off-white, white, or cream for the furniture, saving the more interesting colors for the walls. If you happen to be feeling bold, you might want to try doing the opposite: opt for a lighter color for your walls and a richer, darker shade for the edges and trims. You may also go for a light wall and dark curtains (if you have the lighting to compensate), or boldly colored fixtures on a wood-finished or neutral wall. Make certain the colors still go well together, and that you can live with it for a long time.
Create your own shades. If you can’t find any color you want on the palette, try inventing colors of your own. Get a small amount of each of your favorite colors, and mix and match until you end up with a nice shade. It can even be a fun and pleasurable activity for you and your children! Just make sure to note down all your matches, so you may easily re-create your hue when it’s time to paint.
Make Drawings. A plain color is sometimes just not enough, no matter how bright or bold the color is. If textures and patterns do not appeal to you, why not draw on the walls yourself? You wouldn’t have to paint a mural—just a few bright lines in the right places can make a big difference. For something that is less permanent, you can opt for a wall decal or a detail from old wallpaper patterns.
Make a feature wall. A feature wall is just a wall that’s aesthetically different from the other parts of the room, either by decoration, color, or texture. Choose a wall that’s visible from any part of the room, so that it serves as your focal point. Color it with a brighter color than your other walls and decorate it with different wall accents such as hanging shelves, grilles, paintings, or picture frames. If you do it right, your feature wall will add life to even the dullest color schemes.
