What to do about thanksgiving?
My sister and I was still young, both in our 20’s. Normally every year for Thanksgiving mom cooks the turkey, my sister cooks most of the sides, and I do dessert and the mashed potatoes. Well over the summer I took a few classes and have gotten a lot better at baking an cake decorating. I was going to make a two layered carrot cake with chopped nuts on the side and a nice finish, then use icing to draw a turkey on the cake and write ‘Happy Thanksgiving’
Problem: My sister and I always try to show each other up, and today she is going to a friend’s house to learn to make apple pies completely from scratch. This means I cannot make my cake because only five people will be at dinner. I need a really good dish to make, but I haven’t a clue. Any ideas?
Oh, I should point out that every year we always have:
Turkey, mashed patatoes, green bean casrole, stuffing, yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and apple pie… and rolls.
Make the cake! Don’t let her spoil your fun and showcase your talents! Your parents would love to see what you learned, and to be honest, if you took classes, yours will turn out better than the one day pie-maiking seminar.
Also, next year, I’d tell her you were making a special bean dish or something, then make something totally different…she can’t one-up what she doesn’t know about!
